Where are we located?

Our practice is located in Kansas City, Missouri. We serve the Kansas City Metro area of Missouri and Kansas. 

What is a nurse practitioner?

Nurse practitioners are considered advanced practice providers. A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who obtained an advanced degree to be able to assess, diagnose and treat individuals. In the case of Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP), these providers completed graduate-level courses in advanced pathophysiology, advanced pharmacology, advanced research, advanced assessments, courses in procedures and more, to care for individuals from infancy to adulthood, including the elderly. These providers take a state examination to become board certified (BC) in their specialty. 

What is a collaborating physician?

In some states, such as Missouri, nurse practitioners cannot practice independently. A collaborating physician is a medical doctor who partners with a nurse practitioner, offering support and aiding in clinical guidance. 

Who will be your provider with Powers Healthcare?

Modestine Powers, FNP-BC is the provider of Powers Healthcare. Dr. MacDade is the collaborating physician. Modestine meets with Dr. MacDade regularly, and Dr. MacDade surveys patients' charts for clinical accuracy. 

What are chronic health conditions?

Some examples of chronic health conditions are as follows: hypertension, COPD, diabetes, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, depression/anxiety.

Can Powers Healthcare be your primary care provider?

Yes, Powers Healthcare can be your primary care provider. 

What services do we offer?

We offer most services people receive from a primary care office: Wellness exams, weight loss management, medication management, specialist referrals, lab reviews, INR testing, form completions, etc. We also provide social work/case management services.

What insurances do we accept?

Currently, we are only accepting Missouri and Kansas Medicare, Missouri and Kansas Medicaid, Aetna, United Healthcare and self-pay options.

What is the difference between urgent and emergent health situations?

Urgent health conditions are health situations that are out of your norm but are generally not immediately life threatening. Some examples include: urinary tract infections, upper respiratory infections, ear infections, contact dermatitis flare-ups, slightly elevated blood pressure (<160/100).

Emergent health conditions are health situations that could potentially be immediately life-threatening. Some examples include the following: chest pain, symptoms of stroke; sudden, extreme headaches; extreme abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, significantly elevated blood pressures (>160/100). 

Our provider is Modestine R. Powers, Family Nurse Practitioner (collaborating physician is Dr. Stephen MacDade). 

Our social worker is Brittany Hamilton-Robinson.

Who are our staff?

Do we prescribe pain medicine and other controlled substances?

We do assist with pain, depression and anxiety management with non-controlled prescription medications. However, no, we do not prescribe any controlled substances, including narcotics. In these cases, we refer our patients to a pain management doctor and/or psychiatrist. We can refer you to most pain management and mental health specialists in the area. We regularly refer our patients with pain to Pain Source Solutions (https://www.painsourcesolutions.com/about.html) located in North Kansas City, Missouri.
